Leyton Orient player-manager Kevin Nolan has confirmed the club will sign Peterborough United defender Shaun Brisley.

The deal is expected to be confirmed tomorrow morning and 25-year-old Brisley will move on loan to the O's until the end of the season.

Speaking after tonight's 1-0 home win over Newport County, Nolan said: "We've got a new arrival in Shaun Brisley who we've just signed from Peterborough. He's a centre half so I'm delighted we got him through the door. We were hoping to have him on the bench for tonight but he had a few more scans to do and a medical.

"But he's going to be training with us tomorrow and I will be speaking with the president and his support staff next week about maybe getting in another couple before the window ends."

Nolan added: "When we spoke to Shaun he was really eager about coming which delighted me and then I wanted to get him in the door as quickly as possible.

"What it does is create competition for our two centre halves to make sure they're on top of their game.

"We've kept two clean sheets but they know now if they don't keep a clean sheet on Saturday one of them could get replaced and another come in.

"That's what I want to create here. I want to create competition throughout the squad which is a healthy competition not where it's back biting. I want healthy competition throughout the whole squad and bringing in someone of Shaun's quality is going to bring that."

Nolan earned his second win in a row since taking charge last week after a late penalty from Jay Simpson.

Nolan, whose side have moved up to sixth in League Two, said: "You're going to enjoy it when the lads are doing what you ask of them. Listen by no means was I happy with how we dealt with the ball today. I think we could do a lot better with the quality we have in the squad.

"But today I think in the second half we were a lot better than we were in the first half. I think we probably had the most clear cut opportunities to score but the pleasing aspect is that's two clean sheets on the spin."

The O's boss continued: "When I came in here it was about if you were going to win a game you'd have to score more than one goal.

"But now as you've seen tonight we've scored one goal in the last ten minutes and kept a clean sheet which gets you three points and the lads are all buzzing in there. I've told them that's what it feels like when you don't play well and get three points."
