Leyton Orient boss Kevin Nolan admits the players need to take a hard look at themselves after a dismal Easter dented their League Two promotion hopes.

The O's lost 2-0 at home to Hartlepool United this afternoon as they suffered back-to-back defeats over the weekend.

Orient are two points outside the play-off places but their recent performances suggest the side are some way off promotion material.

Player-manager Nolan said: "Over the last two games I think a lot of us have to have a long, hard look at ourselves.

"That's what I've just said to the boys in there to have a hard look at ourselves because we're playing within ourselves and not playing to our standards."

There were sarcastic cheers after Nolan was substituted in the second half and the team were booed off by fans after the final whistle.

It was the first time Nolan's side have received vocal criticism from their supporters but the manager had no complaints.

The O's boss said: "Fans pay their good money and I've had this conversation wherever I've been at. When you're not doing so well at home, and you saw Oxford fans turn on them when we beat them 1-0, that's what's going to happen.

"That's when we've got to stand up and be counted because at the end of the day they pay their hard earned money to come and watch us. They have an opinion and if they don't like it they don't like it. There's nothing we can do about it."

Nolan continued: "There is something we can do about it and if it's not working the only thing we can do is get back to the drawing board, which we will do, and get on the training ground and do the right things so we can hopefully pick up some points.

"But we haven't been good enough and that's the be all and end all. The fans don't need to tell me that and don't need to tell the boys that. It's something we're working really hard on and we're hoping to get better at."

Orient travel to second bottom York City this Saturday with Nolan's side bidding to avoid a third successive defeat.
