Lloyd James says he is keen to stay at Leyton Orient next season but doesn’t know if he will be kept on.

He is among the players whose contracts expire in the summer and with no manager in place yet he and the others don’t know if they are going to be kept on at the Matchroom Stadium next season.

James confirmed he has not been offered a new deal yet as uncertainty surrounds the East London club with no manager installed to make those key decisions.

Asked if he would like to stay in E10, he replied: “I would like to if something got offered to me. We will see because nothing has been yet.”

It is an uncertain time for all the club’s out of contract players because they don’t know if the new manager will want to keep them following the O’s failure to win promotion.

James said: “That’s what we’re dealing with. We don’t know who is going to be the manager, who is making the decisions on keeping the players. We’re just focused on the last game of the season and then hopefully we will see what happens.

“You never know what could happen. It’s your bread and butter at the end of the day. You’ve got to support your family and things. But that’s the position we’re in. We’re in football and in the lower division there will be so many players in the same position as me. There are lads in the dressing room in the same position. You’ve just got to get your head down and try and earn yourself a contract because nothing is given to you in life.

“I would like to stay but we will have to see what happens. Obviously I’ve not been offered anything. I’ve been here four years and I’ve enjoyed all four years. The fans are great and it feels like home but without a manager and things in place you have to weigh it up.”

James wore the captain’s armband for Saturday’s win over Mansfield ahead of this weekend’s trip to Yeovil Town in their final game of the season.

He said: “It was important that we gave something back to the fans because they have been fantastic all season. We know we have underachieved for them for what we have got in the dressing room.

“We have gone out there and showed that we are still fighting and that we wanted to put a performance on for the fans and we want to do that on Saturday as well.”

Last weekend’s win was achieved with the help of two young debutants with centre half Aron Pollock and midfielder Sandro Samedo being given their first league starts.

James said: “The youngsters were fantastic. Aron was fantastic at the back, he’s got a great future ahead of him. He’s a leader, he puts people in their place and I thought he did fantastic. Sandro was just as good as well. He was lively, he worked his socks off and then Josh [Koroma] came on at the end and put in another good display.”
