Leyton Orient have confirmed Andy Hessenthaler as their new manager for the upcoming 2016-17 season.

The 50-year-old, who took over management duties from Kevin Nolan in April, has signed a one-year-deal with the option to extend.

The League Two club said they are confident they have the right man for the job and believe his expertise, spirit and passion made him the ideal candidate for the position.

It is his first permanent manager position since he was in charge of the Kent based club Gillingham from 2010-12.

Hessenthaler was in charge of Orient's final five games of the 2015-16 season where they won their last two matches 1-0 at home to Mansfield Town and away to Yeovil.

The former Watford player admitted at the end of last season there was too much interference from president Francesco Becchetti at the club.

However, he believed the O’s were unlucky in terms of missing out on a place in the play-offs but thinks the team needs to be more consistent over 46 games.
