Russell Slade will face Leyton Orient in a pre-season friendly after being confirmed as the new Charlton Athletic boss.

The 55-year-old joins the Addicks on a three-year-deal after leaving his role as Head of Football at Cardiff City.

The former Leyton Orient boss said he is very pleased with his appointment as the London based club has a great tradition and history.

He said: “I was attracted to Charlton as it has great facilities, passionate fans and a very successful academy.

“This is a hugely exciting opportunity and I cannot wait to get started.”

Charlton CEO Katrien Meire said Slade is the right man to ensure the club have a successful 2016-17 campaign.

During his 242-game spell with the O’s he reached the League One play-off final in 2014 and won 103 matches when in charge giving him the highest win percentage of any manger in Orient’s history.

Slade will be back at Brisbane Road on Saturday, July 23 as part of the pre-season schedule before the start of next season.
