Callum Kennedy said he is on cloud nine after signing for Leyton Orient on a one-year deal last week following his release from AFC Wimbledon.

The 26-year-old made the switch to Brisbane Road after making his final appearance with the London based club in the 2-0 League-Two play-off win over Plymouth Argyle.

Kennedy ended his time with the Dons on a high as he signed off with an assist to Lyle Taylor’s opener in the final at Wembley and said he wants to build on this achievement.

“I am really excited for a new start and getting back into training, we haven’t finished that long ago but it is nice to know that it is all done now and I am looking forward to get cracking,” he told the Leyton Orient Website.

“As soon as you look at this league and you see Leyton Orient in there you think they are going to be up there challenging and having tasted that success a couple of weeks ago it is something I would love to do again and I don’t see any reason why we can’t.”

Kennedy gave a heartfelt farewell to the club, making 24 appearances in the 2015/16 season, where he spent three years and hailed Wombles fans for the commitment to the club in their meteoric rise.

He played in the 1-0 loss Orient suffered at the Kingsmeadow Stadium and it is likely he will battle with 20-year-old Josh Doherty for the position following his release from Watford.

But while signing for the E10 club may be a new challenge he is looking forward to seeing a few familiar faces in the shape of manager Andy Hessenthaler and midfielder Sammy Moore.

He said: “As soon as I heard of the interest from Leyton Orient I was keen, especially having worked with the manager while I was on loan at Gillingham when I was a little younger.

“In my eyes it is a very big club and as soon as I heard the name, that attracted me in itself.

“When you add in all the other parts in terms of location and knowing some of the lads, it was extremely attractive.”

Kennedy began his career at Swindon Town in 2007 and had loan spells at Gillingham and Rotherham United.

Following his release from the Robins he went onto play for Scunthorpe United where he made 18 appearances.

Kennedy is the fourth summer signing of new O’s boss Andy Hessenthaler as Gavin Massey, Josh Doherty and Robbie Weir will all become permanent players for Orient on Friday, July 1.
