Robbie Weir could miss out on the 2016/17 season League Two opener for Leyton Orient against Cheltenham on Saturday, August 6.

O’s boss Andy Hessenthaler said the captain picked up a knee problem at the friendly against Dagenham & Redbridge last week.

He also missed the O’s final pre-season friendly against Gillingham due to having a sickness bug along with Liam Kelly, Callum Kennedy and Sean Clohessy.

The 50-year-old said: “Robbie has got the sickness bug, but he also has a slight knee problem and out of all of them he is definitely a major doubt for the weekend.

“We’ll see how he develops with the knee and the illness by the middle of the week, but out of all of them he is the major doubt.”

Although Hessenthaler was concerned about Kelly’s, Kennedy’s and Clohessy’s health, he expects them all to recover in time for the away trip to Cheltenham.

“Fingers crossed Sean, Callum and Liam are available for the weekend because we need everybody available,” he added.

“Sean felt a lot better on Saturday and is a very fit boy anyway so I don’t see him missing quite a bit of training being a problem.

“Liam is the same so I don’t envisage them having any problems and Callum is a very fit boy too.”
