HARRY Cornick admitted his two assists in Leyton Orient’s 3-1 victory over Stevenage in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday gave him a huge confidence boost.

Orient now lie top of Southern Group G with two goals from Paul McCallum as Sandro Semedo gained his first goal for the club. Southend United sit in second after they beat Brighton & Hove Albion Under-23s 2-0.

The 21-year-old, who signed on a six-month loan from Bournemouth, provided the Stevenage defence with all sorts of problems.

“It is a major confidence booster for me to get assists and if I can keep helping the strikers to score goals, we can win games – that is the main thing,” said Cornick.

“For me, I am getting closer to the goal but it is pleasing to get the win and if I can help in any way for the team to win then that is all that matters really.”

The winger played in League Two last season as he played for Yeovil Town, where he scored eight goals in 42 appearances.

Cornick joined Orient during pre-season and has since showed why O’s boss Andy Hessenthaler signed him for the club during the summer.

He added: “I had a few offers from other League Two clubs, but I think Orient was the right decision.

“I think they are the ones who are going to push right to the top and it is a nice club.

“And it is not too far from me at home,; it was the perfect choice for me and I didn’t really think about it too much.

“It is a bit different here at Orient, Yeovil are a different club to what Orient are, but it is just different.

“It is all about just getting used to it and how Orient play, and getting used to the changes.

“The lads here have been brilliant,; as soon as I came in they just made me feel welcome, and hopefully I am starting to show what I am all about.

“And I will look to keep improving, keep getting better, score some more goals and get more assists and become a better player.

“This will hopefully help Orient out in the long run and see if we can push up the table and get to where we should be.”

The O’s are currently unbeaten on the road this season as they drew 1-1 with Cheltenham Town and beat Grimsby 2-1 at Blundell Park.

However, they have not fared as well at Brisbane Road as they have only managed three points from a possible nine due to defeats from Newport County and Mansfield Town.

“Our away form is good, but we need to make Brisbane Road a fortress, we can’t lose at home really that shouldn’t happen.

“When we go away we can hopefully get a point or three points but we can’t keep losing games.”

Cornick will likely feature in Orient’s next game on Saturday, with kick off at 3pm as they travel to top of the table Morecambe, and has previously played against them last season.

“They have done really well as they have won four games; they have done well at the start,” said Cornick.

“But anyone can beat anyone in League Two as we have saw that already, so we will just go up there and play our style of football and hopefully get the three points.”

Orient signed French defender Teddy Mezague on a free transfer with the deal subject to international clearance.

The 26-year-old penned a three-year contract with the club, after he left Belgian Jupiler Pro League side Royal Excel Mouscron in the summer.

Mezague came through the youth ranks with Montpellier, and played 14 league games for the French side.

In 2014 he joined the Belgian club and made 32 league appearances in two seasons.

The defender is continuing his recovery and rehabilitation following surgery on an Achilles tendon injury in May.

But Barnet winger Luke Gambin turned down a move to E10.

Bees chairman Tony Kleanthous said a £100,000 deal was agreed, but the 23-year-old wants to play at a higher level than League Two.
