Andy Hessenthaler said he wishes Dean Cox all the best after Leyton Orient showed there was life without him as they beat Morecambe 2-1 at the Globe Arena.

Goals from Liam Kelly and a first for Jordan Bowery, was enough to seal the three points and send the O’s up the table to seventh.

Kevin Ellison scored the goal for the Shrimps but it was not enough and the O’s remain unbeaten on the road as the club notched up some good news after a tough week for the O’s faithful.

“As far as I was concerned Cox was offered a deal with Northampton, the club agreed to let him go as at the end of the day he has been an absolute top servant for the club,” said Hessenthaler.

“And as far as I knew it was all happening and he’d gone to Northampton, I’d spoken to him on the Tuesday night said he was going and unfortunately it didn’t materialise and he left the club.

“I don’t think we need to talk anymore about it all I can say from a personal point of view what a top lad and Thank you to him what he has done for Leyton Orient over the years.

“I know the fans are disappointed that he last left but it has happened, we wish him all the best and thank him for what he has done.

“He still has a bright future and we can’t say any more than that, he has left we can’t do anything about that now he has left our football club.

“Good luck to him, I want to talk about our three points today and enjoy it.”

Simpson, who last featured for the O’s against Stevenage in the League in August, still remains side lined due to a back injury, but the 51-year-old is confident he will be back in the next couple of weeks.

The forward was also linked with a deadline day move away from Brisbane Road as it was reported Bolton and Southend United.

Hessenthaler added: “Hopefully Jay will be training on Thursday, he will be in some sort of training, I think Carlisle will probably be too soon for him but I can see him being involved certainly for the next home game against Yeovil he will be in the squad I’m sure.

“Not as far as I know was there any deadline day offers for Jay, there was talk about the Southend situation but that was earlier in the window.

“So not as far as I know, nothing in the end, and he is our player I can’t wait to get him back into the training ground and back involved.”

Next up for Leyton Orient is another away trip to Carlisle on Saturday, September 10 with kick off at 3pm.
