Leyton Orient boss Andy Hessenthaler claimed the penalty decision was a difficult one after the O’s drew 2-2 with Carlisle at Brunton Park.

Paul McCallum and Harry Cornick both scored stylish goals for the O’s both times giving them the lead before Charlie Wyke came off the bench to score with his second touch within a minute of the second half and Danny Grainger converted from the penalty spot.

The O’s have gained 8 points from a possible 12 on the road as they remain unbeaten on their travels and Hessenthaler admitted there is a bit of frustration.

“Liam Kelly was unlucky, he came sliding in and unless you slide in like a pencil, and if he did slide like that I don’t think it would touch his hand,” said the 51-year-old.

“But I don’t think you can slide like that, it is a natural thing you are going to do to have you hand out when you go in like that.

“But the referee has given it and he was unfortunate and we were unlucky not to take the three points.

“We would have taken the point before the start of the game, we have accumulated four points from two away trips, so it its very positive.”

Orient are back at Brisbane Road next week as they take on Yeovil Town where they will look to build up their home form.

Hessenthaler was keen to stress he did not feel his side dropped two points rather than one point gained.

He added: “With the nature of the time of the game at 85 minutes, then yes, but this is a tough place to come, it is a long journey.

“They are unbeaten, they are the only team in the league who has been unbeaten, we went to Morecambe last week, who were top of the table, and we have come beat them and nearly beat Carlisle here.

“They are a good side, it was a difficult first half, as they moved the ball around really well.

“For all they have in the first half, their main chance hit the post and what was the biggest challenge was their throw ins.

“It is difficult to defend against their set plays, but we had our own opportunities and scored that fantastic goal.

“But going back to the goals conceded, like Morecambe, we had the same conversation at half time, make sure we don’t concede early, within seconds they scored a goal.

“That is where the frustration kicks in, we could have easily won the game today.”
