Leyton Orient need to bounce back at the weekend after a string of defeats as they face Barnet at the Hive tomorrow.

Caretaker boss Andy Edwards had his first game in charge on Tuesday night against top of the table Plymouth Argyle in which was a night to forget as two of his men were sent off.

Robbie Weir was sent off in the first minute and Jens Janse followed suit 14 minutes later received but Edwards admitted Saturday is a fresh start for the O’s.

He said: “We’ve got a strong squad. There’s good young players coming through, they need a pathway and there’s no point having 24 senior pros when there’s the strongest youth side this club has had in a number of years, because it blocks up their pathway.

“It’s that balance between getting that right-sized squad, getting success; you can’t legislate for losing potentially three central midfielders for the weekend.

“We’ll see what happens on Saturday, it’s a new game and we’ll prepare for it as best we can.

“We need to perform on the pitch, we’ve got a good squad and we’re underperforming on the pitch.

“Barnet are a very capable side, and it’ll be a tough test for us.”

But the O’s fans were in fine voice and stuck behind their team after they produced a fighting performance after they went down to nine men.

Nicky Hunt received the captain’s armband after Liam Kelly came off with an injury and may be likely to be the leader when they take on the Bees.

Hunt was delighted with his side’s spirit and believes they can take this forward during a turmoil time for the E10 club.

“We want to take the heart and spirit into Saturday, that’s the minimum and it should be every week. These fans pay good money to come and see us every week, and we want to put on performances like that home and away,” he added.

“We’ll just have to deal with the injuries, Andy will find us a shape which will hopefully see us go and beat Barnet.

“We’re nine games in and only a few points off the play-offs; if we win two or three, we’ll be back up there. It’s early days yet, when we’ve played 30 games we’ll pay more attention to it and hopefully we’ll be up there then.

“We’ve always had the belief, and away from home we have been superb. We need to watch Tuesday’s game back and take every single positive out of the game, and it shows what you can do.”
