Andy Edwards admitted it was a relief to get his first point as Leyton Orient’s caretaker manager as they drew 0-0 with Barnet at the Hive Stadium.

Edwards took over from Andy Hessenthaler after he was relieved of his duties on Monday following a 3-1 loss to Notts County.

Jay Simpson and Harry Cornick provided the best chances of the game but could not break down a resilient Bees defence.

Edwards added: “Tuesday’s game was one that will obviously go down in history for me personally in terms of a first game with the supporters and the situation.

“But with the reaction of the fans it was a unique game. At least we gave it a go today and obviously I thought the performance was a good one.

“We have got more to do to get to the level we want to be at.”

Harry Cornick came off just after the break for Jordan Bowery and he will now join the likes of Nigel Atangana on the sidelines as another Orient player injured.

The O’s were also without captain Robbie Weir as he was serving his match suspensions after he was sent off within the first 30 seconds of their 2-0 loss to Plymouth Argyle.

“Harry had an injury at half-time which we are mindful of that and we will see how he is so we were forced into a change,” Edwards added.

The game was Orient’s first draw since March 2015 and it is the 65th game where they have not drawn in any league fixture.

Edwards continued: “It is a long time, I thought the performance defensively was a good one we came to get a win not a draw, “We are disappointed not to go home with three points but we started the game very well and had a good few opportunities.

“In the second half I thought we weren’t quite so good with the ball but throughout from the back to the front we defended well.

“We defended with discipline and I am very pleased with that.”

The O’s travel to Southend on Tuesday as they play at Roots Hall in their second Chekatrade Trophy fixture with a 7:45pm kick off.
