Alberto Cavasin lost 1-0 in his first game in charge at Brisbane Road as Leyton Orient took on Portsmouth in a Sky Bet League Two fixture.

Pompey had poor away form while Orient’s home form left little to be desired but it was Portsmouth that gained the advantage.

Christian Burgess scored the only goal of the game as once again set play was Orients enemy.

Cavasin has had one week in charge at E10 and will hope to pick up some points next week as Luton Town visit the Matchroom Stadium.

It was a positive start from the Os as Ulrich Nnomo delivered a low cross which was cleared out for a corner and punted away by the Pompey defence.

A minute later there was a double chance for the Os a Paul McCallum forces David Forde into action early on which is saved by the latter before Jay Simpson’s header is too weak and is collected.

But Orient were let off after Conor Chaplin side footed into the far corner before the flag was rightly put up for offside.

And the injury news continued for Orient as Liam Kelly came off in the 5th minute after he went down in front of the dugouts as Sandro Semedo replaced him.

Amine Linganzi had a great chance to open the scoring for the visitors as he got on the end of a Gary Roberts corner but he headed wide.

Referee Christopher Sarginson waved away a huge penalty appeal as Yvan Erichot looked to have been brought down in the box with a great goal scoring position but nothing was given.

Christian Burgers raced onto a corner in the 15th minute from Carl Baker but can only manage to head the ball over the bar.

Alex Cisak was called into action after he tried to skilfully round Chaplin but he made a great save to make up for his earlier mistake from the forwards impending chance.

Pompey’s Kyle Bennett tried his luck from 25-yards out 19 minutes into the game but the ball went narrowly wide of the post.

Bennett went down in the box under a challenge from Gavin Massey inside the box and ref Sarginson looked to have given a penalty but instead booked the former for diving.

Enda Stevens was booked in the 34th minute after he slide in to win the ball but connected with Jans Janse on what looked like a late challenge.

Massey ran down the pitch and played a great ball out to the left for Nnomo with the winger delivering in a cross before McCallum headed wide.

And Pompey had another go as Chaplin tried a wonderful volley which went just wide of the post and Roberts looked to have scored just on the stroke of half-time before his shot was deflected wide.

The Os made an interesting substitution for the second half as Alan Dunne came on for McCallum and took up the position of central midfield.

And it was the visitors who got the first chance as Roberts picked out the run of Stevens before the full-back drilled a low cross in which was cleared by Tom Parkes.

Once again it was a set play that failed Orient as Burgess headed in from a corner in the 57th minute.

Orients first chance of the second didn’t come until the 72nd minute as Callum Kennedy floated a free-kick into the box which is headed back by Erichot before Parkes turns and plays it Simpson who is then crowded out.

A minute later, Roberts threaded a pass in behind the Os defence for substitute Danny Rose to chase but Cisak came down well to gather.

And Hunt almost made it two for Pompey and a huge sigh of relief came out of the Os fans as his header came back off the frame.

Semedo whipped in superb ball which is headed behind by Burgess for a corner but Orient could not build on it as Parkes has two efforts blocked before the former suffered the same fate.

Pompey fans were delighted with their scrappy win and Simpson was quick down the tunnel as Orient recorded another loss at Brisbane Road.
