Leyton Orient gained their first win under boss Alberto Cavasin as they defeated Hartlepool United 3-1 at Victoria Park.

Ollie Palmer scored twice with Sandro Semedo equalising after Josh Laurent got his first goal for Hartlepool as they have yet to win a game at home this season.

It was the Os first win in League since September with their 2-1 victory over Morecambe.

Cavasin told the Os fans sooner or later they will be smiling and have a great win under their belt as Alexandra Crewe visit Brisbane Road next week.

The first chance of the first half fell to Orient as Palmer flicked a ball on for Jordan Bowery to chase and the forward was bundled over in the box by Jake Carroll before the danger is cleared.

And it was not before long the home side had a chance of their own as Padraig Amond should have scored but instead he volleyed straight over the bar.

The Os got the first corner of the game after Bowery’s strike was blocked before Gavin Massey’s cross was turned behind and it was easily saved by Trevor Carson.

Amond was causing the visitors all sorts of problems and Orient were lucky not to be one down as Carroll whips in another dangerous cross but the former could only head wide.

After the first 15 minutes it seemed to be all going the right way for The Pool as Lewis Alessandra was one on one with Alex Cisak but the Aussie keeper came to the rescue and managed to gain a goal kick.

Palmer hit the bar after being set up by a swooshing Callum Kennedy free-kick but his attempt came back out off the top bar.

The Pool forward Amond was called for offside after being through on goal in the 33rd minute but before the flag went up the smacked a shot right off the crossbar.

And then there was another wasted chance for Hartlepool as Amond directed a header wide with Cisak nowhere near.

But the Os should have taken advantage of Trevor Carson’s spill just before the break as he flapped at a Kennedy cross before Semedo’s ball went across goal and behind for a corner.

The home side finally reaped the rewards just before half time as once again a set piece was Orient’s arch nemesis as Laurent scored from inside the box.

It was the same pattern as the first as the hosts had the first go as Alessandra fed in Amond on the edge of the area but Parkes was there to block the incoming pass and turned it behind.

But Orient found some space and in the 55th minute Semedo equalised with a low strike after Palmer played him in and the whole team celebrated with the travelling Os fans.

The equaliser seemed to have sparked Orient into some sort of rhythm as only six minutes later they were ahead through Palmer as he played a lovely 1-1 with Bowery before he found the far corner.

Pool did not give in and as Orient’s defence still looked shaky and Toto Nsiala came racing in at the far post to meet the corner only to head it wide.

It wasn’t before long that Palmer bagged himself his third in two games as calmly slotted home following great build-up play involving Massey and Semedo.

Zan Benedicic made his debut and was quickly booked for catching Nathan Thomas with an elbow and was lucky to escape a red card.

Ulrich Nnomo almost added a fourth three minutes from time as he got away from Liam Donnelly on the left but his shot was touched behind.

The home side tried to get back into the match as Orient gained their first win since September 3.
