Leyton Orient boss Alberto Cavasin joked he gave his team good luck kisses during his half-time talk as they beat Hartlepool United 3-1.

All three came in the second half courtesy of Sandro Semedo and an Ollie Palmer double where he once again showed his support for his nine-year old cousin Frankie.

The Os came out after the break a different side as they conceded from a set piece just before the break as Josh Laurent scored his first goal for the club.

“I kissed them all. Twice. I would have gave them three kisses but you can’t kiss them on the mouth,” said the 60-year-old.

“It feels good to get my first win but we have not reached our potential yet. The first half is just part of the past.

“There has been two months of bad results and some really tough moments, as we sat just above the bottom of the table.

“It wasn’t good going into the changing room with the result at 1-0. It wasn’t an easy situation to face.

“But we managed to do better in the second half. We are not top level yet as I felt we were a little scared trying to make it 1-1.

“Ten minutes into the second half I thought they were better than us. But then we scored and the team started to run their socks off.”

The result could have been very different if it was not for Alex Cisak who made vital saves early on in the second to stop the Pool going 2-0 up.

And once again set pieces were Orient’s enemy as they gave away a sloppy goal from a corner with 11 men defending in the box.

The Italian added: “The man in the middle of the box was free but this is part of the past. We are doing a zone system defence.

“We made up the decision last week and in training my thoughts were these players born naturally to adapt to this system.

“Even if we concede a goal I think it is a system of defence that can work. It is a good system.”

Jay Simpson, Paul McCallum, Aron Pollock and Yvan Erichot all missed out today due to slight injuries and It seems Sandro Semedo may join the list of absentees after Lewis Hawkins was booked for a nasty challenge on the Os winger.

“Semedo took a big hit on his leg between the ankle and his thigh and we will access it from the scan on Monday.”
