Alberto Cavasin believes Leyton Orient’s players would benefit from a lighter training schedule, but admitted he will yield to the will of chairman Francesco Becchetti on the matter.

The O’s claimed a much-needed 3-1 win over Hartlepool on Saturday to move out of the League Two relegation zone.

When quizzed on what needed to happen to ensure they maintained their form in their next match against Crewe Alexandra, Cavasin offered an honest response.

He said: “The main message is work, but say if the chairman doesn’t impose and make us do two training sessions a day, maybe with one training session less, we are convinced it can be helpful to put everything in its place.

“But if the chairman says two training sessions a day we are going to have two training sessions a day.”

Cavasin’s concern about his players’ workload is unsurprising considering the sizeable injury list he has had to contend with in recent weeks.

Sandro Samedo picked up an injury during the win at Victoria Park and joined Jay Simpson, Paul McCallum, Aron Pollock and Yvan Erichot as the walking wounded.

The Orient boss could at least offer positive news on the injury front and confirmed Simpson, Samedo, Erichot and Pollock are in contention to feature against Crewe.

He said after the Hartlepool win: “They will all probably train on Monday and I think we will have to wait and get news. It is nothing too serious.

“We will scan Sandro and see the development of his injury in the next 48 hours because he got a really bad hit and it is not something we want to take any risks with.”

While Orient showed clear attacking quality in the success at Hartlepool, there were still clear flaws in a performance which saw them come from behind.

The defending for the hosts’ goal left a lot to be desired as Josh Laurent was given too much space at a corner.

Cavasin is aware of the issue and understands his side must improve if they are to make it two wins on the bounce against Crewe.

He explained: “We still have to do a lot because we are conceding too easily and we will have to work on that.”

Their opponents are without a win in the last six league matches and suffered a 1-0 defeat away at Yeovil last time out.

Despite their poor run of form, Crewe currently sit 12th and are just a point outside the League Two play-off places after 14 games.

Orient meanwhile are two points clear of the relegation zone despite having taken just eight points from the last 30 available to them in the league.
