New Leyton Orient signing Michael Collins believes the message at E10 is a positive one and they can turn their home form around quickly.

The 30-year-old signed for Orient last week and was involved in their 2-0 loss to Crewe at Brisbane Road on Saturday as he came on for the last 45 minutes.

Collins had to make an immediate impact as the O’s had a mountain to climb but he was relishing the challenge of being able to play a game of football once again.

“The boss told me to get in amongst it and try and get us playing. He said to try and link up our play. It was an intense warm-up as you normally warm-up on your own,” said Collins.

“That is the way they do it here and there is no problem with that. The message was really positive.

“It has been quite a while since I have played in a game myself. I am naturally quite a fit lad anyway, the more training and more playing time I get I will get better in the fitness department but I felt great.”

Orient now sit in the bottom two of the League Two table after Wycombe Wanderers and Barnet both won their respective matches.

But the ex-Oxford United player says morale is still high in the club and that can only be a good thing going forward.

He added: “It certainly doesn't seem like a place that's down. Training has been positive and the lads have been positive.

"There have been some disappointing results but I don't think it would take much to turn it around. I've been in sides before where you know there are problems and I don't sense that here.

“Sometimes in football you just need a bit of luck and over the coming weeks hopefully we'll get that. Nobody is shirking and nobody is hiding."

The O’s move onto a tough match on Sunday as they face Sheffield United in the FA Cup first round at Bramall Lane with a 2pm kick off.

And the fans in particular vented their frustration last weekend as they called for owner Francesco Becchetti to leave the club as they sang ‘Becchetti out’ after Crewe scored their second goal.

“The fans pay good money and when they come here they want to get entertained and see good results and especially for a club like this,” said the former Huddersfield Town player.

“In my opinion it is one of the strongest clubs in the division and obviously there is going to be disappointment around and from the terraces.

“We’ll turn this around. It is not ideal at the moment, but I see the quality in the squad and given time this club will climb the division.

“While I’ve been out injured I have watched other games in League Two and seen other sides. This club should be at the top end of the table so everybody is aware of that.

“It was a disappointing result on Saturday, we move on to Sheffield United now against a team that is doing really well, but we have nothing to lose.”
