It was a tough day at the office for Leyton Orient boss Alberto Cavasin as his O’s side fell to their seventh defeat at Brisbane Road since the start of the season.

Crewe Alexandra won 2-0 on Saturday as this time defensive errors became the O’s problem ahead of their FA Cup clash at Sheffield United this weekend.

At half-time the former Sampdoria boss chose to take off Jordan Bowery and replace him with new signing Michael Collins and change to a 4-5-1 formation instead of bringing on Jay Simpson, who enjoyed a prolific campaign last season, scoring 25 goals in total.

The 60-year-old said: “I saw the opposing team during the second half controlling the game and they were superior to us.

“We started to play with long balls and this made their style of play a lot easier. I wanted my team to play with the ball more on the ground.

“And in my point of view I thought the match had to be controlled and played the way our opponents did.

“That means playing all together, moving forward with the team compact. And that is why I decided to create the situation that allowed me to create these type of manoeuvres.

“For as little as 15, 20 minutes we had control. We had two or three corners but we never had a big obvious chance.

“And the final substitutions we did I thought we could push the team forward and see how they moved all together for fresh energy.”

One of the big talking points last week was when Cavasin admitted that Francesco Becchetti had asked the players to do double sessions.

Interference from the chairman has always been an issue for the O’s fans and the manager was asked if he was behind the former Huddersfield Town player’s signing and if double sessions did take place throughout the week.

“Yes I was. We have seen him play and we needed a midfielder as Liam Kelly, as you know, is going to be out for some time,” explained Cavasin.

“We saw some of his clips of his best matches throughout his career. The club offered this player and we had a chance to see him all week.

“As a player he was well trained and was ready. I thought he would be a good man for the team.

“We did not have double sessions every day. On Wednesday we had a day to recover. The negative emotions of the result means they can struggle more than they are supposed to.”

Orient have only managed one home goal in the league since August 27, which was in the 2-1 defeat to Luton Town two weeks ago.

What seems to be a key factor is the O’s have plenty of possession but do not have that sting in the final third to convert their chances.

Cavasin added: “It is a problem. We conceded goals and we do not score enough. Even playing in an offensive team.

“We need to find a balance between the offence and defence as when we are weaving out of possession the other team seem to always go for goal.”

“We need to score more.”

Orient will be back in League action on Saturday, November 12 as they face an away trip to Colchester United where they will be looking to move out of the relegation zone.
