With the world falling silent at 11am to mark Armstice Day to remember the dead of two World Wars and conflicts since, Leyton Orient have cause to remember further to the service.

Forty-one players and staff of Clapton Orient who enlisted into the 17th Battalion Middlesex Regiment - known as the Footballers' Battalion.

On Tuesday, December 15, 1914 signed on the dotted line at Fulham Town Hall with captain Fred 'Spider' Parker being the first footballer in the entire country to enlist.

And to this day, Orient was the first football club to join up en masse and the O's example led others to do the same.

Three Orient players made the ultimate sacarfice as Richard McFadden, George Scott and William Jones lost their lives during the Battle of the Somme 1916.

And their lives will be remembered during an Act Of Remembrance being held in Coronation Gardens on Sunday.

The club are encouraing fans to join up with the Leyton Branch of the Royal British Legion along with members of the public.

Orient bugle team and the 17th Pals' Battalion Band will be attending along with pipers from the Legion.

A wreath will be laid to remember all the Orient lads of 1916.

The O's have also added an extra touch of remembering Lance Corporal Sidney Wheelhouse, captain of Grimsby Town, who played for Orient whilst he was in London waiting his move to France to join his comrades.
