Leyton Orient defender Callum Kennedy believes it is only a matter of time before things turn around for the E10 club.

The O’s fell to a 3-1 defeat, their only second away loss of the 2016/17 season, at the hands of promotion chasers Doncaster Rovers at the Keepmoat Stadium at the weekend.

Kennedy scored a wonder free-kick from 30-yards out to bag his first goal for the club since signing for the O’s in the summer.

“It was the best I have scored in a game, not in training, but it is a nice feeling, especially when you go 1-0 up,” said the former AFC Wimbledon player.

“You start to think right ok that is nice but can we hold on to this so it means something?

“I don’t care if I am scoring and we get nothing at the end of it, I only care if we get a point or three points.

“I would have absolutely have loved for that goal to be the winner, I’d be telling everyone about it, but it is what it is.

“Hopefully it is a sign of things to come, but at the same time we just need to get points on the board.”

It was always going to be a tough task for Orient against Darren Ferguson’s and with the exit of their former boss Alberto Cavasin, new boss Andy Edwards had little time to put his stamp on things.

With two weeks off before their next home game against Accrington Stanley at Brisbane Road on Saturday, September 10 the side will have time to adapt to their new style.

The 27-year-old said: “Andy has come in and says he prefers man-to-man marking so that is what we are doing.

“When we last went man-to-man marking we went eight games without conceding from a set piece so we have taken that back on.

“We didn’t really have much time to work on it, a couple of us missed training, and it was a bit mix and match.

“Hopefully now with the two weeks coming up we can put in serious work and organised.

“I like how Andy and Webby (Danny Webb) work. I think they will always explain the thought process behind what they are doing.

“They want to simplify things, I think with the attitude of the lads, I think sooner or later things have to change for us if we keep working hard.

“We obviously have a few people injured but when we get people back I think we will set ourselves with how we want to play, get a result against Accrington.

“Then we start getting people back, and it is building blocks, then we start to build up a bit of confidence up rather than down.

“We are going to be alright, we just have to keep digging in and working hard. The results just make me think if it stayed 1-0 with my goal we would have been further up the table but it is what it is.”

The game against Accrington kicks off at 3pm.
