Leyton Orient boss Andy Edwards felt the two weeks off worked out well for him and assistant manager Danny Webb to put their own stamp on things.

Edwards took over from Alberto Cavasin two weeks ago and lost 3-1 to promotion chasers Doncaster Rovers in his first official match in charge.

The 45-year-old received a positive response from his players and is looking to build on that over the festive period.

“It has been positive. It has worked out well having those two weeks off,” said the former Academy Director.

“We have managed to lay down the foundations and show our expectations of the group.

“I have been working with the players throughout the season.

“We have got to be more resilient and hard to play against as we are in a relegation fight.

“And we need to fight for every ball and every point that is available.

“Attractive and attacking football is what we are aiming for and we also need to be a tough nut to crack.

“Players’ confidence is also a key factor going forward.”

Orient have a busy home fixture schedule with three out of their four games being played at Brisbane Road in December.

First up for the E10 club is Accrington Stanley who beat Woking 3-0 in the FA Cup second round on Sunday.

But Edwards was keen to point out this would not give his side an advantage.

He added: “John Coleman has been there for a number of years and the team has evolved.

“Their preparation has been going on for a number of years.

“It will be a tough game. They have their own brand of football.

“We have shown the players some of their play but we have to focus on us. I think that is the most important thing.

“It is good to look at their strengths and their weaknesses and we will touch on it again on Thursday and Friday.

“But we need a strong performance on Saturday.”

The former Peterborough United player has been with the O’s for seven years working his way up from the academy to the first team.

When asked if that was a positive when he stepped into the Matchroom Stadium hot seat he said: “It is good that I know the players and that they know me.

“But it is all about the performances on the pitch, it is down to the games and ensuring we get the points at the end of the 90 minutes.

“That is our main focus so we can start to climb up the table and get out of the position we are in at the moment.”

Orient face an away trip to Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday, December 17.

They host Crawley Town and Cambridge United on Boxing Day and New Year’s Eve.
