Scott Kashket provided a salute to the Leyton Orient directors after he scored against his former club for Wycombe Wanderers in a Sky Bet League Two fixture.

Wycombe has now won eight games in a row in all competitions with the O’s only recording their third loss on the road in the league.

Paul McCallum had the ball in the back of the net in the first half but it was called for offside before Orient could start celebrating.

Andy Edwards will hope his side don’t have their confidence knocked ahead of their festive fixtures at Brisbane Road after securing their first home win since August against Accrington Stanley last week.

The hosts looked full of confidence from the kick-off with good spells of possession on the ball but the O’s thwarted their early chances.

In the fourth minute, McCallum threw a superb long ball into the box which was met by Jay Simpson but the forward could only head so far before the ball was cleared.

Orient received a number of corners early on and their best chance came when McCallum got on the end of a Callum Kennedy corner but his header was blocked.

Former O’s player Kashket had two shots in quick succession but both went wide of the post early on in the half.

Paris Cowan-Hall had a chance to open the scoring after he played a one-two with Garry Thompson but his shot was deflected out by Kennedy.

Neither side had a real chance in the penalty area but Thompson’s long throw was met by Matt Bloomfield but Robbie Weir made a vital clearance to shut the former out.

On the 26th minute, Kennedy tried his luck from the edge of the penalty box but his shot went over the corner of the bar.

Shortly afterwards Simpson had a good as a chance as any to score his fourth of the season after he controlled Gavin Massey’s cross but it went wide of the right-hand post.

Joe Jacobson clipped a cross into the O’s penalty area but Tom Parkes was on hand to battle with Aaron Pierre and Alex Cisak was able to collect the ball easily.

Bloomfield and Thompson worked well to bring the ball into the O’s area but Cowan-Hall was unable to get enough power behind his shot and Cisak once again made the save.

Massey once again proved how vital he is on the wing after he produced a slick cross towards Simpson whose shot was held by Jamal Blackman.

The O’s faithful thought their side had gained the first goal of the match four minutes from the break after McCallum smacked the ball home from close range but the linesman flagged for offside.

There was a change of referee for the second half with the fourth official Alan Young replacing referee Rob Lewis.

Kashket called for a penalty early on into the final 45 but referee Young waved the appeal away and minutes later the forward was flagged for offside.

But the former O’s academy player didn’t have to wait for long to store against his former side and score his 11th of the season after he tapped the ball home after Cowan-Hall was denied by Cisak.

Kennedy’s match ended on the hour mark as he was stretched off the park after falling awkwardly when he made a vital clearance.

Nicky Hunt and McCallum were both shown the yellow card late on in the half after complaining to the referee for giving The Chairboys a goal-kick.

The second half soon became a quiet affair after the first goal was scored and The Chairboys held on for the much-deserved win.
