Leyton Orient boss Andy Edwards was left bitterly disappointed in the manner his side lost against Exeter City.

A Ryan Harley double and one a piece from David Wheeler and Liam McAlinden saw Orient brought back down to earth after a decent December. The E10 club failed to get going and was left punished at the back by a team who are now seven games unbeaten.

“We were very flat. We expected to come in and get something. We knew we were facing a side who started a run against us back in November,” added Edwards.

“So we knew it would be a tough game, irrespectively of them only winning one game at home up until now.

“We expected to get something out of the game and the performance and the result was far from what we expected and what we hoped for.

Christy Pym was rarely tested throughout the game with Paul McCallum having a good chance in the opening two minutes with a headed shot.

When asked where it all went wrong Edwards said: “I don’t know. I wish I could put my finger on it. It has happened a number of times this year.

“This is my sixth game in charge, in the five previous games, I have been happy with the commitment and the performances really.

“We are at the bottom of the table. We keep speaking about being hard to play against in possession. In the first half, we had two or three good chances.

“But we didn’t take them. We got punished in our first lapse in concentration and we went on to make a few more mistakes that cost us in a 4-0 score line.”

Robbie Weir was subbed on in the second half but the captain had to be stretchered off only minutes later after an awkward fall.

Orient have been hindered with a few injuries as of late with Teddy Mezague, Sandro Semedo and Sam Dalby all missing out due to knocks picked up against Cambridge United.

“I don’t know about his (Robbie Weir) update at the moment. It has been difficult for Robbie not being in the side,” said Edwards.

“But he came on and I thought he looked lively with some intent and then picked up an injury.

“I am not sure at the moment to the extent of that injury.”

Edwards also responded by saying it was difficult to introduce the young players into the squad when Orient are in a relegation battle.

The 45-year-old added: “We keep going on about how we have a good set of young players but they are 17. Myles Judd is 17 I thought he did well today.

“He got punished for maybe his one lapse in concentration at the far post but he has been excellent. Josh Koroma comes on and again he is a fantastic prospect.

“He showed some excitement in today’s game. They are young. You have to throw them in sometimes and see if they can deal with it.

“But as a squad and as a group we get the credit when it goes our way regardless of our age and when it doesn’t we have got to take the criticism on the chin.”

Orient host Barnet on Saturday (3pm kick-off) who come to Brisbane Road on the back of a 1-0 win over Plymouth Argyle.
