Leyton Orient is keen on bringing some experience into their defence by acquiring the services of Southend United defender Adam Barrett on loan.

According to the Southend Echo, the E10 club would look to loan him until the end of the season.

O's manager Andy Edwards has previously played alongside the 37-year-old and Blues boss Phil Brown confirmed the club are interested.

"Orient's manager approached me about Adam direct and said he was keen on taking him on loan for the rest of the season," said Brown.

"He said he was going to ask the board for advice on what to do next but I'm still waiting to hear back from him."

Barrett came through the youth system at the O's but failed to make a first-team appearance.

The defender did, however, make 14 appearances when he went back for a second time during the 2010/2011 season and could make a third appearance with Orient who are currently struggling in League Two.

But with the latest news regarding owner and president Francesco Becchetti wanting to sell the E10 club, it remains to be seen if the 45-year-old will be able to acquire any targets in the January window.
