Danny Webb’s first game in charge ended with a 2-1 loss to Carlisle United despite the visitors going down to 10-men for the final 15 minutes.

Gavin Massey opened the scoring with a fine finish before Gary Liddle and Jamie Proctor scored from rebounds to ensure the three points.

Proctor was subsequently sent off but the extra man advantage did not help the O’s as they fell to another defeat.

The O’s have a congested fixture list in the next week with Morecambe visiting on Tuesday night before an away trip to Yeovil Town on Saturday.

Orient started the brighter of the two sides and gained two corners in quick succession but the Carlisle defence was able to clear the danger twice.

However, the visitors had a chance of their own in the fourth minute when Jamie Proctor took a shot from outside the box but 19-year-old Sam Sargeant easily gathered.

Massey was unfortunate in the eighth minute to not open the scoring when Sam Dalby flicked the ball on for him to chase in the area but a Carlisle defender was able to clear in time.

The Cumbrians had a spell of corners and Nicky Adam’s one caused panic in the penalty area but new signing Rowan Liburd’s touch directed the ball behind for a corner which came to nothing.

Adams won a free-kick just outside the penalty area and he took it short before Jabo Ibehre fired a shot into the top of the North Stand.

Jamie Devitt managed some last ditch defending to deny a Sandro Semedo cross but the latter intercepted and it was gathered by Mark Gillespie.

And it was Massey who broke the deadlock in the 25th minute when Sargeant’s long ball was sliced by a Carlisle player and the winger was on hand to collect and smash the ball home past The Cumbrians keeper.

But the O’s lead was short lived after Sargeant initially kept out a Devitt free-kick but Liddle was on hand to tap home the rebound nine minutes later.

Orient were also close to scoring a second just before half-time when Massey drove in an excellent cross but neither Dalby or Liburd was able to convert.

Carlisle started the second half with high intensity and were almost 2-1 up when Ibehre was through on goal, although he appeared to be offside, but Sargeant pushed the ball wide from a tight angle.

The away side appealed for a penalty in the 54th minute but referee Graham Horwood waved away the appeals for a handball in the box.

But quickly down the other end, Massey carried the ball into the penalty area before playing a 1-2 with Dalby, however, the former’s shot was blocked in the end.

Once again you felt for youngster Sargeant who initially saved a George Waring shot in the 69th minute but Proctor reacted the quickest and headed the ball home.

And with 15 minutes to go, Proctor, who had just scored Carlisle’s second, after he received another yellow following his foul two minutes earlier on Sammy Moore.

The O’s were hoping to use the extra man to their advantage and Callum Kennedy’s cross was headed out to Myles Judd but his shot was blocked by Mike Jones.

Two minutes later, it looked as though Carlisle would double their lead but Waring poked wide but the flag was up for offside.

Moore then tried his luck from 25-yards out but his effort was easily held by Gillespie.

Orient kept pushing for an equaliser as Judd’s cross was put out for a corner but Michael Collin’s delivery was flicked on by Nigel Atangana before Gillespie claimed.

In the dying minutes of the game, Atangana almost gained the equaliser but he could only flick a Semedo cross just over the bar.

Orient are still in the drop zone with a game in hand over their relegation rivals.
