Leyton Orient fans are set to stage a peaceful protest against Hartlepool United on Monday after their relegation out of the Football League could already have been confirmed.

Orient currently sit bottom of the League Two table and are 10 points from safety and four points adrift from Newport County, a team they defeated 4-0 last month.

If the O’s lose against Luton Town tomorrow and Hartlepool United and Cheltenham Town both win they will be relegated into the National League.

At the time of going to press, players and staff are still yet to be paid and fans concerns have grown as to whether the debt to other creditors will be paid by owner Francesco Becchetti.

The O’s lost once again in a 3-0 defeat to Cambridge United at the weekend and at the game fans were made aware of the upcoming protest entitled ‘Oh What a Circus’ with flyers.

O’s fan Michael Ockelford, who one of the brains behind the circus peaceful protest, said in the flyer: “Nine days in football is a long time, within this time frame, we are all hoping and praying for new owners.

“If circumstances don’t change, we have the opportunity to make our feelings known by a peaceful protest dressed as clowns, or anything circus related, wigs, hats, face painting, even a red nose will do.”

Throughout the past week, it was revealed the players and staff are still yet to be paid with the former believing they will not receive any wages until owner Becchetti sells the club or it goes into administration.

They were due to be paid on March 31 and again on April 6 but are yet to receive any wages.

“The protest is not just about our current owner,” the flyer continues. “It’s also about how the football authorities such as the FA and EFL have failed to act as one man single handedly attempts to destroy London’s second oldest club in less than three years of ownership.

“It’s clear the Fit and Proper Person test isn’t fit for purpose, nor is the sport’s governing body that have provided nothing in terms of assistance to the fans and staff at the club.

“If nothing changes, in nine days, the Circus comes to town. Tell all your friends and dress up as the #orientclown. Up the O’s.”

At the match, at 3.11pm, all fans with whistles will also look to blow ‘time’ on Becchetti’s ownership at the club.

The O’s faithful chose this time as the Italian has been in charge of the club for just under three years and in that time, he has overseen 11 managers with Omer Riza the latest man to take the job in the hot seat.

The protest is being staged separately to the Leyton Orient Fan’s Trust (LOFT).
