Former Leyton orient striker Gavin Massey has found a new club after joining Wigan Athletic.

The 24-year-old has agreed a two-year deal with the Latics after deciding to leave the O’s after their relegation to the National League.

Massey joined the O’s in June 2016 and scored eight times in 36 League Two outings for the club, but couldn’t prevent the club slipping out of the football league.

He will now test himself in League One and has been impressed by what he has seen since joining Wigan.

He told the club website: “It’s really pleasing to have finally got the move over the line; I have known since quite soon after the end of the season of the interest in me from Wigan and it’s something I have pursued since.

“It’s a club with great history in terms of my time following football and I am hoping to be a part of something special.

“The club is back in League One after a disappointing season but I have seen the squad and I am impressed by the gaffer and the success he has had - all in all it is a no brainer for me.

“I am looking forward to getting down to some hard work, it’s going to be fun and hopefully we will have a good season.

“The facilities here are incredible and not what I am used to, which makes me hungry to get going here.

“I am looking forward to playing against Liverpool now; it’s going to be a great occasion against some top-class players.”
