A relieved Justin Edinburgh praised his players’ efficiency, after Leyton Orient finally picked up their first home win of 2018 against Woking.

A first half double from top-scorer Macauley Bonne and a powerful late effort from James Brophy secured the O’s a crucial 3-0 victory, moving them seven points clear of the drop zone after Solihull Moors’ 0-0 draw with Halifax Town earlier today.

The result brings Orient’s six game winless run to an end in all competitions and Edinburgh was delighted to get back to winning ways after a difficult few weeks.

He said: “It’s an excellent feeling. One that’s been a long time coming. But credit to the players. A lot was expected of them today and rightly so, but they were certainly efficient in getting the result.

“I didn’t think we started the second half very well. But Woking had nothing to lose and threw a lot of bodies forward as they had four up front at one stage.

“I thought once we had got over that initial period, we got back into the game and we looked a threat going forward and on the counter attack. That’s what we had to play today because of the amount of bodies they threw forward in the second half. We had to be cautious and conscious but on another day we could have had more.”

Orient’s first home win of 2018 has been a long time coming, with Edinburgh’s men last tasting victory at Brisbane Road on Boxing Day, thanks to a 2-0 win over Dagenham and Redbridge.

O’s fans haven’t had much to cheer about at home in recent weeks, with the late collapse against Gateshead in the FA Trophy as well as the disappointing defeat against Torquay, and Edinburgh is hoping his team can build on today’s victory in the coming weeks.

He said: “Your home form is vital to you if you’re going to have success and we’ve got to try and put that right. It won’t be done overnight. A lot of managers have come and gone that haven’t quite done that, but today, we’ve given ourselves an opportunity to build on that momentum going into next season.”

The only negative point from an otherwise excellent day was the loss of striker Matt Harrold, who was substituted after just five minutes through injury, and Edinburgh provided an update on the striker’s fitness after the game.

He said: “It’s a hamstring injury. He overstretched. It’s unfortunate for Matt as he’s started for the second consecutive game and he did so well at Eastleigh last week. But that’s just been Matt’s luck this season.”
