David Mooney's 95th minute goal ensured Leyton Orient picked up back-to-back victories, as the O's beat ten men Guiseley 3-1 this afternoon.

Mooney, on as a second half substitute, converted from close range from James Brophy's cross to seal a crucial three points, after a calamitous own goal from Joe Widdowson had threatened to set up a nervy finish.

The result moves Orient into the top half of the table in 12th place, extending the gap to the bottom three to nine points.

Justin Edinburgh made just one change to the side that beat Woking last week with Dan Holman coming in for the injured Matt Harrold up top. There was a welcome return for Myles Judd on the bench, while young goalkeeper Arthur Janata was named among the subs instead of Charlie Grainger, whose partner gave birth to the couple's first child earlier today.

Fresh from their first home win of 2018 last weekend, it was the O's who started the game brightly with Macauley Bonne's volley forcing Guiseley's Luke Coddington into a good save after Jobi McAnuff's free kick had only been partially cleared.

The chances kept coming for Orient in the opening few minutes too with Craig Clay's dipping volley flying just past the post and Sam Ling's header being denied.

Another chance came and went for the O's on the 20 minute mark as McAnuff's free kick went just wide of the target, while Bonne fired into the side-netting a few minutes later.

But despite creating a host of chances, Orient almost went in behind at half-time as Alex Purver's cross flew over Dean Brill but fortunately, a combination of Ling and Josh Coulson cleared the ball off the line.

The second half started in frantic fashion, as Guiseley were reduced to ten men within two minutes of the restart when Coddington raced off his line and clattered into Bonne outside the box. The referee showed no hesitation in sending Coddington for an early bath and it was the O's who took the lead from the resultant free kick, as McAnuff stepped up and fired the ball into the top corner.

Brophy was next to go close for Orient, as he had an effort saved by Guiseley substitute goalkeeper Joe Green and Orient would add their second moments later, as McAnuff notched his second of the game as he fired into the bottom corner.

But a calamitous error saw Guiseley find a way back into the game, as Widdowson's back pass bobbled over the unfortunate Brill's foot and into the back of the net to set up a nervy finish.

However, the O's didn't let that setback affect them, as they scored a crucial third in stoppage time, as sub Mooney coolly slotted the ball home from Brophy's cross to secure back-to-back wins for Justin Edinburgh's men.
