Leyton Orient’s three game winning streak at Brisbane Road is over, as Ryan Upward’s early goal secured ten-man Maidenhead United a 1-0 win this evening.

Upward poked the ball home in the fifth minute to secure Alan Devonshire’s men the win, meaning the O’s hopes of finishing in the top half of the table are now over.

Head coach Justin Edinburgh named an unchanged side after Orient’s 1-0 win over Wrexham at the weekend, but the O’s got off to the worst possible start in the opening few minutes, as Maidenhead’s Alan Massey nodded a corner back across goal to Upward, who scrambled the ball past Dean Brill to give the visitors the lead.

Orient’s sloppy start continued when firstly, miscommunication between Dan Happe and Brill almost allowed Sean Marks in on goal, before Upward’s long-range effort forced a comfortable save from the O’s goalkeeper.

Another chance came and went for the visitors when Marks’ header flew over the bar, but Orient finally started to get a foothold in the game as the match ticked towards half time, with Jobi McAnuff sending a free-kick over the bar, before Josh Koroma’s effort was saved by Carl Pentney.

Edinburgh decided to introduce Charlie Lee at half-time in place of Craig Clay, but it was Maidenhead who continued to cause problems, with Brill having to be alert to parry Sam Barratt’s header before James Comley’s follow up was blocked.

Lee then arrowed an effort over the bar, before the O’s then created a promising opportunity in the 63rd minute, when Macauley Bonne released McAnuff only for the O’s skipper to send his effort wide of the post.

Lamar Reynolds came on in place of James Brophy as the O’s tried to get back on level terms, but it was Maidenhead who almost doubled their advantage with five minutes remaining when Barratt’s powerful strike hit the bar.

Maidenhead would finish the game with ten-men when goal-scorer Upward was sent off for a second bookable offence and the O’s almost made the most of their numerical advantage deep into stoppage time.

Substitute Reynolds got to the by-line and pulled the ball back to the waiting Adams, but the on-loan Norwich City man could only blaze his effort over the bar, meaning Orient’s final home game of the season would end with a frustrating defeat.
