Former Leyton Orient man Dean Cox is on the lookout for a new club after his contract was terminated by mutual consent by Crawley Town.

However, it seems unlikely that the 30-year-old will be returning to the Breyer Group Stadium as the Guardian Series understands that the winger wants to remain in the Football League.

Cox moved to Crawley after leaving Orient in September 2016, but had to wait till January 2017 to make his first appearance for the club against Yeovil Town after he was signed outside the transfer window.

The 30-year-old went on to make 27 appearances for Crawley in all competitions during his time with the Reds, but last season proved to be a tough campaign for the former Orient winger, as he played just five times.

Speaking to the Guardian Series last month, Cox admitted that his future was uncertain after a frustrating campaign and he spoke of his desire to play regular football next season.

He said: “Yeah it (my future) has to be decided. I think it’s no mystery that I haven’t been playing. But I want to get back playing as I’ve been sitting around doing nothing really. I want games and we will see what the summer brings.”

Cox established himself as a fan favourite with O’s fans during a six-year spell in East London, scoring 59 times in 275 appearances, with his form during the 2013/14 campaign helping to propel Orient to the League One Play Off Final.

He returned to Brisbane Road last month as part of the Errol McKellar charity match, but couldn’t play any part during the game due to a clause in his contract.

But Cox is now without a club as his contract was terminated by mutual consent late last week and he is now hoping to secure a deal with another Football League outfit.
