Leyton Orient will make a decision over potential transfer targets in ‘the next couple of days’ according to assistant coach Ross Embleton.

The O’s have made two summer signings so far, with midfielder Dale Gorman arriving from League Two side Stevenage, while Tranmere Rovers striker James Alabi swapped Prenton Park for the Breyer Group Stadium .

When asked by the Guardian Series last week, Embleton had previously stated that the O’s were in no rush to bring in any new additions to the club, with Orient prepared to bide their time to identify the right type of character who would fit into the squad.

But quizzed about any further movements in the transfer market after Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw with Ebbsfleet, Embleton admitted that the coaching staff would sit down in ‘the next couple of days’ to discuss potential new additions to the squad and any targets they wish to contact.

Embleton said: “The window doesn’t quite shut as it does with everybody else. We are definitely looking in certain areas. I won’t give away too much as we don’t want to alert people to the particular players we are looking at.

“It’s something we are continuously monitoring. Over the next couple of days, we’ll then make a decision over whether we need a player in a certain position and we’ll have those targets and decide which one we hone in on.”

Alabi made his home debut for the O’s against Ebbsfleet last night and there have been early signs of a promising partnership developing between the 23-year-old and Macauley Bonne.

The former Chester striker had the opportunity to put the game to bed at the Breyer Group Stadium when he raced through one-on-one with Nathan Ashmore in the closing stages, but his effort was too close to the Ebbsfleet goalkeeper, who made a relatively straight-forward save.

Alabi moved to East London after a difficult campaign last season, which saw him farmed out on loan to Dover Athletic after failing to score in nine appearances for Tranmere.

But the striker was largely played out of position by Chris Kinnear during his time at Dover and a disappointing campaign saw him notch just once in 20 appearances.

Embleton, though, is certain that there is plenty more to come from the powerful striker.

Orient’s assistant coach said: “In the second half at the weekend, we managed to find balls into James Alabi and Macauley Bonne and it gave us an opportunity to get up the pitch a bit more. I’m not sure we did that well enough tonight. He didn’t get into the game as much as possible.

“But I think what he showed is that he’s got that pace and energy to keep doing it in the latter stages of the game. He’s a powerful lad and he got himself in behind their back four. I’m sure James will be disappointed that he didn’t take his opportunity but we’re seeing good signs from him.”
