Justin Edinburgh couldn’t hide his frustration at full-time after watching his Leyton Orient side concede a second late equaliser in the space of a week against Barrow.

Substitute Raul Correia was on hand to turn home from close range with five minutes remaining to secure the Bluebirds a point, cancelling out Macauley Bonne’s second half brace.

It means that Orient have thrown away four points over the last couple of days, with Corey Whitely’s deflected injury time strike securing Ebbsfleet United a 1-1 draw at the Breyer Group Stadium on Tuesday night.

Orient started poorly in the first half at Brisbane Road this afternoon and could have few complaints about trailing at the break thanks to Jack Hindle’s early strike.

But two goals from Bonne turned the game on its head and the O’s looked on course for their first victory of the season, only for Correia to tap home from close range with just five minutes remaining after Dean Brill had failed to deal with a long throw.

Edinburgh admitted his disappointment at Orient’s failure to close out the game after the final whistle, but felt Barrow’s equaliser shouldn’t have stood due to a foul on Brill.

He said: “It was a game of two halves. Again, I believe we’ve started slow which is becoming a tad frustrating. I don’t know why but we are trying to search for that.

“We’ve started slowly but second half we dominated and when you get yourself in front, you expect to see that through. I’m very disappointed that for two consecutive games now we haven’t been able to see it out.”

Asked whether he thought it was a foul on Brill in the build up to the Barrow equaliser, Edinburgh said: “I believe so. I believe it would have been given any other time in any other game. But it wasn’t. From the second ball they’ve reacted quicker which is another disappointment.”

While unbeaten, it means Orient have now picked up three draws from their opening three games of the season, leaving them in 13th place in the table.

But if they had taken their chances against both Salford City and Ebbsfleet United, the O’s could be in a far superior position at this early stage of the campaign, with Bonne, Josh Koroma and James Alabi all squandering chances in those matches.

Edinburgh, though, feels that his side haven’t quite clicked going forward just yet and he’s hopeful the O’s will be able to react positively by beating Maidstone United this Tuesday.

“There’s always frustration and disappointment,” he said.

“I don’t think we’ve quite clicked into gear with the ball. It’s very hard to take when you concede two late goals that we have.

“But there is always a will to do better. That’s what the group demand of themselves and I believe with the foundations we’ve got and the team’s we’ve played, we’d always want more but sometimes we have to look at it and reflect and move on to Tuesday.”
