James Brophy will miss the coming weeks after sitting out Leyton Orient’s match against Boreham Wood on Saturday with a torn hamstring.

The tricky winger was replaced by Alex Lawless on Tuesday night against Maidstone United in the second half and scans have shown that the 24-year-old has suffered a slight tear to his hamstring.

Brophy has been in excellent form for the O’s since joining from Swindon Town on a permanent basis in January, with his quick and skilful play often causing National League full-backs plenty of problems.

Having come on as a substitute against Salford City in Orient’s first game of the campaign, Brophy has since established himself in the starting line-up once again, scoring against Ebbsfleet United at the Breyer Group Stadium two weeks ago.

James Dayton replaced the 24-year-old in the starting line-up on Saturday against Boreham Wood and the former Cheltenham Town winger looks set to enjoy an extended run in the side due to Brophy’s injury.

When asked about the extent of Brophy’s injury on Saturday, head coach Justin Edinburgh said: “Obviously we didn’t fear the worst on Tuesday night when he (Brophy) came off. But unfortunately, a scan has shown that there is a slight tear in the hamstring, which is a big blow.

“But I think what we have been able to assemble over my period of time here is a squad that can deal with that absentee. James Dayton again showed that and with Jobi McAnuff coming in, as much as Brophy is a great player, we were able to win the game without him.”

When pushed on how long Brophy will be on the side-lines, Edinburgh added: “Weeks. We don’t expect it to be too long.”

Dale Gorman and Matt Harrold warmed up with the Orient team on Saturday as they continued their recovery from their respective injuries.

Midfielder Gorman hasn’t played since April after fracturing his ankle against Coventry City in his last match for Stevenage, while Harrold hasn’t featured since March due to a hamstring problem.

Both appeared to be doing fitness work on the pitch before both teams came out for their warm-ups at the weekend and Edinburgh said Harrold would have been named on the bench if Josh Koroma hadn’t been able to feature, after the youngster picked up an injury in training on Friday.

Edinburgh said: “They (Harrold and Gorman) were in the squad today. If Josh had missed out, then Matt Harrold would have been on the bench. They’re there now. We’ve got another game on Tuesday for them and all being well, then they will be ready to go.

“It’s a friendly behind closed doors. It’s against Southend. It will be a good test for us and one that some of the boys who haven’t quite had enough minutes will get some time. It’s a good time to have it.”
