ORIENT striker Wayne Gray is optimistic about giving manager Martin Ling a major boost ahead of next season by hopefully recovering from a knee injury in time to make the big kick-off in August.

The former Yeovil and Southend frontman still remains in the dark in regards the extent of the injury he suffered in the final game of the campaign against Bristol Rovers in May.

But having already started his rehabilitation work, Gray believes he has suffered the far lesser medial ligament injury rather than damaging his cruciate ligament.

Talking ahead of his latest scan yesterday (Wednesday), he said: "I will get the results back at the weekend, but so far everything looks positive.

"It is five and a half weeks since I got the injury and while I've been in a knee brace for most of that time I have still been able to do work on building up my thigh as well as some flexibility and movement work with the knee.

"Because of that and how well the swelling has gone down the surgeon is very hopeful that it is only the medial ligament that is damaged.

"But until these latest scan results come back we can't be one hundred per cent sure.

"Fingers crossed though that they go well, because then I can really step up the rehabilitation work and hopefully look to be back ready even in time for the first pre-season match.

"If that is the case then I can aim to get my fitness up and be ready for the season.

"I really hope that is the case because this is a big season for me at Orient, because I'm in the last year of my contract here.

"So I want this to be my best year in football and hope that is also the case for Orient as well.

"My aim of course will be to build on the ten goals I got last season and the three I got in the last three games of the season as well.

"I know that if me and Adam Boyd can get amongst the goals then the club will have every chance of being successful and I just hope these results will come back positive now."
