ORIENT won 2-0 in Ireland last week in the club’s second pre-season match.

Against Kildare County, new defender Ben Chorley netted with a header just before the break, and trialist Dominic Casciato scored the winner in the 66th minute.

For his goal, Chorley was supplied by a free kick from trialist Matt Richards, late of Championship side Ipswich.

Casciato fired home from close range after Loick Pires’ header was saved on the line.

The O’s turned in an adequate display at the home of the Eirecom League Division Club team, against determined host’s.

Midfielder Jason Demetriou had to make a goal line clearance.

Afterwards, boss Geraint Williams said the Irish adventure had served a purpose.

"We knew that Billericay was the first game of pre-season, but we still don't want to be conceding goals so it was nice for the lads at the back that we kept a clean sheet” he said.

"It's not just down to the defenders though, everyone works hard as a team. But we still want to play forward and I just felt that towards the end we over-played a little bit.”

"That said, it was a pleasing performance and we've had an excellent three days in Ireland. The lads have been getting to know each other, so it's been a very successful trip” Williams told club sources.

Striker Ryan Jarvis was absent with a groin injury.

The match will be Orient’s sole overseas adventure this pre-season, but that does not bother Sean Thornton.

The mercurial midfielder is recovering from a hernia operation and has missed two weeks of training as a result.

However, the 26 year-old was happy to visit his native Ireland, and also praised boss Williams.

"I'm back in training now and hopefully I'll take part in a match soon, so I'm ahead of schedule really” he said.

"It's nice to be back over in Ireland too. I've been away ten years now but it's still good to come back, train and play a game against Kildare."

"He (Williams) is amongst the best I've worked for, as a manager and a person. He was a big reason behind me signing a new contract.

"Now I hope to stay injury free, have a big season and help this club to be successful."
