ON-loan Scunthorpe winger Wayne Corden is hoping his match winner for Orient on Saturday may lead to a premanent deal at Brisbane Road next season, writes Peter King.

The 30-year-old, who has looked stronger with every game, fired an excellent second goal for the Londoners on 69 minutes against Peterborough.

It came at a point in the game when Orient started to look a little under pressure from the visitors having played much of the match with ten men.

That win lifted the O's back into the automatic promotion places ahead of their final match of the season at Oxford on Saturday, and leaves Corden with the possibility of enjoying two successive promotions after going up with the Iron last year.

Reflecting on events he said: "It was a fantastic result, because it was always going to be hard when Paul Connor was sent off. But the lads dug in and I think my goal came just at the right time and I was very happy with the strike.

"The result means that events are back in our own hands, although we know that there will be a lot of tension surrounding the game at Oxford on Saturday.

"They could go down if they don't win, so I'm sure they will be on edge.

"We are also a little under pressure to win ourselves to be assured that we go up, but I certainly would rather be in our position than theirs.

"I believe we have got the players to see the job through and with them coming out at us I believe we can take advantage of a few gaps that are likely to open up."

If that is the case and Orient can secure their first automatic promotion in 36 years, Corden is likely to stand a better chance of being offered a contract at Brisbane Road for next season.

He said: "It is in the manager's hands really and nothing has been mentioned yet, although I expect we will have a chat when the season has finished.

"I would certainly be interested to hear what he has to say and would like to stay here next season if things work out.

"The club is very well run and has great facilities and is certainly moving in the right direction.

"But let's wait until the season has finished and hopefully I can help us go up on Saturday.

"It would be a massive achievement to have gone up in successive seasons.

"And while I know the lads have done the majority of the work I would like to think that I've played my part in the last eight games of the campaign."
