So how are the new signings shaping up? Guardian Series Sport reviews their performances in Devon.

Alex Revell...

Played 211 minutes at the Joma Cup. One goal against Truro.

The ex-Wycombe Wanderers man was impressive in Devon, and is now set for role at point of the attack next season. The 27-year-old has shown classy finishing so far, and can also hold up the ball to bring team-mates into play. Revell lacks a great scoring record until now, but his other qualities should make him first-choice hitman. Shaping up as a pivotal player.

George Porter...

Played 90 minutes in Devon. One goal against Truro.

The 17-year-old played just once in Devon, but for the full 90 minutes against Truro. The promising youngster showed more of his lightning pace which could wreak havoc against League One defences.

Could link better with forwards, which will come with training. Exciting prospect who is not overawed by life with the first team.

Stephen Dawson...

Played 210 minutes in Devon. One goal against Truro.

The 24 year-old with a battling attitude was often deployed on the right in Devon. But he looks like a very effective box-to-box midfielder, though is in competition for that role with Adam Chambers and Jimmy Smith. However, 30-year-old Chambers is injury-prone so Dawson should get his chance. Selfless player who adds grit to the midfield.

Matthew Spring...

Played 180 minutes in Devon. No goals.

The 30-year-old can be a creative force for Orient and looks a very good signing. He is comfortable on the ball and has an eye for the cutting pass. Spring was a composed presence in midfield who should deploy his skills in attack, not on the back-foot helping the defence.

Midfield lynchpin and worthy replacement for Sean Thornton.

Dean Cox...

Played 119 minutes in Devon. One goal against Eastleigh.

The 22-year-old left-footed winger impressed in fits and bursts at the tournament. The former Seagulls man showed a deft touch and set up Scott McGleish for his equaliser against Blackpool. Could face competition for midfield role from Ryan Jarvis with surfeit of strikers. Potential game-changer.

Elliot Omozusi...

Played 167 minutes in Devon. No goals.

The 21-year-old signing from Premier League Fulham looks like everything you want in a defender, and with a turn of pace. Not much got past Omozusi at left-back, and he even clattered one Eastleigh player into a wall. Charlie Daniels is injured, and now has a rival for his place. Slade may shift Daniels into midfield, which would be good for Omozusi.

Terrell Forbes...

Played 243 minutes in Devon. No goals.

The 28-year-old’s positioning and anticipation were excellent, but lack of height makes him vulnerable against lanky opposition. Forbes was an assured presence at the heart of defence and should be a regular next season. He is a vocal presence too, which is a much-needed quality identified by boss Slade. Possible captaincy material.

Aaron Brown...

Played 90 minutes in Devon. No goals.

One appearance in the Joma trophy suggests Brown is set for a supporting role next season. The 27-year-old is 6’ 5” high, but he was neat and tidy in the tackle and in possession. Ben Chorley has been injury-prone so Brown could get a bigger role at the heart of defence. Few of the new signings have impressed more than him.

Lee Butcher...

Played 90 minutes in Devon between the sticks.

The 20-year-old signing from Tottenham Hotspur made several good saves against Truro. Jamie Jones is the undisputed number one choice at Orient, but Butcher did his prospects no harm in Devon.
