Charlie Daniels could play against Huddersfield Town this weekend, hopes the Orient manager.

Russell Slade told Guardian Series Sport: “We’re hoping he’ll be back on Saturday, and that will be a big plus.”

Slade was forced to shuffle the back-line for last weekend’s defeat 2-0 to Daggers, moving Elliot Omozusi across the line to fill in for Daniels at left-back, leaving Mike Cestor on the bench.

Jimmy Smith deputised in Omozusi’s usual spot, and turned in a solid display.

Meanwhile Michael Liddle, who Slade recruited as cover for Daniels before the start of the season, has gone home.

Slade explained: “He’s in Sunderland at the minute and I believe he’s having some kind of injection to settle his groin down a bit.

“They know more about his physicalities than we do, so are looking at him.“

No date has been set for his return to Brisbane Road, where he is on loan until Christmas from Premier League Sunderland.

“I’m not confident he’ll be back in the next few days, but I’m going to be led by Dave (medical staff) and the people in Sunderland, to see how far away he is.”

The left flank was a source of major danger for Orient at Victoria Road.

Danny Green supplied the cross from there was Romain Vincelot headed home for Daggers’ opening goal, after just eight minutes.
