The post-match old classic ‘Another one bites the dust’ at Stadium:mk on Tuesday just about summed up an instantly forgettable evening as the O’s suffered their third successive away defeat.

Despite holding their opponents to only a single-goal margin until quite late in the game, this was a poor performance and it makes you wonder whether some of the players have their minds on their summer holidays, rather than the job of getting enough points to reach the magical ‘50’.

This reverse again leaves us looking over our shoulders as the teams below us again picked up points – and it was rather ironic that a rejuvenated Jabo Ibehre should be one of the contributors to our downfall. How we miss his presence up front – but he left the club a few years back probably thinking he had gone as far as he could and seeking pastures new.

As I mentioned in my last set of notes, I was not privy to the reverses at Wycombe or Tranmere and thinking these were only a blip, the pasting MK Dons handed out renewed my fears of a difficult season end.

Worryingly, we looked vulnerable down the flanks, failing to do the basics by getting the tackles in to cut out crosses. It was – to be honest – a shambles of a performance and so akin to some of our early season displays.

I felt we went backwards as a team when Brentford trounced us at the start of the season. But that was way back in August and our recovery was only to be around the corner. And then we go on a superb unbeaten run and win some important games at Stevenage and Preston.

But coming to the end of March we are on the edge of a ‘precipice’ and face daunting tasks against the likes of Sheffield Wednesday and Charlton – and Oldham – who are fighting for their lives. So, it makes you wonder where the next win is coming from.

Pulling up those sleeves I think is now the order of the day between now and the end of the season.

Keep the faith.

Up the O’s.

Rowland Lyons.
