Russell Slade admitted his frustration after seeing his Leyton Orient side fall to their tenth home league defeat of the campaign last night.

Promotion-chasing Huddersfield Town left E10 with all three points but were forced to come from behind as O’s skipper Matthew Spring fired the hosts in front.

The lead lasted just four minutes though as the unfortunate Jimmy Smith put through his own net from a Jordan Rhodes effort before the striker struck twice more for Town to secure a 3-1 victory.

Orient’s main threat in the second period came from set pieces but despite a series of corners and free kicks which troubled the visiting defence, Slade’s side were unable to find a way back into the contest.

And the manager conceded after the game they were poor goals to give away.

“It just gets more frustrating,” he said. “I thought we settled into the game better than what we had done on Saturday. We took the initiative by getting the first goal but then couldn’t hang on to it for more than four or five minutes.

“The two goals are disappointing because one is from a long throw and it is second phase from there. The corner is a little bit unfortunate. It has bobbled around off shoulders, off heads, off arms and it has fallen kindly for them.

“It is just really really frustrating. In the second half we were trying to take the game to them as best we could and obviously they have caught us with a third goal late on.”

He continued: “I think we have had eight or nine corners, more than them in the end. Lis (Kevin Lisbie) came close with a header but it wasn’t to be.

“We tried everything we could. The attitude was good. The attitude to try and get back in the game was good but the goals are really poor goals and it is difficult to take.

“From their point of view, they are a big physical side and they will say they work on situations like that – the long throw and the corner – where they have presence, and they can cause you a problem which they have tonight.”
