It’s just before 8pm on Saturday and I have just got back from Huish Park.

I was always told never to write an article while the raw emotion of a game was still fresh in the memory bank, but seeing as the 90 minutes I have just witnessed had about as much emotion and excitement in it as an evening of crochet at the local Women’s Institute, I reckon I am pretty safe.....

Before the start of the campaign, the message in my first editorial of the season in the fanzine was clear – stability. Eighth place, bearing in mind more off the field shenanigans, is perfectly acceptable in my book, but it still doesn’t bode well for the future.

It would appear we are not actively seeking a new manager at the moment and what with the lack of decision making and planning with regards players contracts, we could be playing catch up again this summer very quickly, and that simply cannot be allowed to happen.

In my last piece for the Guardian Series, I spoke of instability and the continuing mess in E10. I do not want to sign off this year with yet more whinging, but the catalogue of mistakes have hardly subsided this season and this is why the rest of this piece will effectively form an appeal to Mr Becchetti and his entourage to do the right thing.

I, like many others, have stated quite openly that I believe the owner wants success for the O’s. Francesco’s investment over the last 22 months is not in question.

In July 2014 we finally had a serious money man that, with his backing, could help propel us from the fantastic starting position Barry Hearn, Matt Porter and a host of others had left us in, and had things been different, I could have been penning this on behalf of a club and group of supporters that were pushing for a monumental return to the top flight. As crazy as that may sound, who thought Jamie Vardy would have scored two goals on Saturday for Leicester City, the champions of England?

Over the past few years there have been several sides that have benefited greatly from installing a rich man in the boardroom. Brentford, under the stewardship of Matthew Benham, had a three year plan to become a solid championship club, Mohamed Al Fayed took his Fulham side into the top flight and a Russian billionaire oversaw the meteoric rise of a certain South Coast club from almost bottom of the Football League into a division now paying a minimum of £100m just for not getting relegated!

I suppose you could argue it’s typical Leyton Orient. We bag ourselves an Italian businessman with a private plane and his own TV channel, and instead of setting Brisbane Road up for a two legged shot at a Wembley final in either the second or third tier, we are left scratching our heads and crying into our pints thinking that when the fixtures come out in June, on what Tuesday evening will we paying another visit to Carlisle or Hartlepool, or even Forest Green?

Now, in much of the business world, football included, pound notes talk. There is something extremely romantic about triumphing by doing it all within the Financial Fair Play rules, but after 40 years (or more) of hurt, don’t we deserve a little bit of the good life in E10, and to hell with how we get it?

So with two years of footballing experience under his Gucci belt, surely now is the time for the owner to deliver. I believe he can and I want him to succeed as well, make no mistake about that.

The last couple of weeks (LOSC star man awards aside), the club have started to show tiny green shoots of recovery. Mr Becchetti has agreed to meet with supporters in July, and the club have announced a fantastic deal on season ticket prices for the future of the club, with the next generation of supporters paying less than 40p a game for live football.

A revamp (much needed in my opinion) of Theo’s Junior Supporters Club is promised and these are all encouraging signs that the new owners are just starting to learn, all be it slowly, but being so near rock bottom, we simply have to re-start somewhere.

So my message to Mr Becchetti is this. Please embrace the club and it’s loyal fanbase to help you to help us back on the high road to firstly stability and then perhaps glory.

Please, let’s get those appointments right, let’s stop the stupidity, let’s spend money (wisely), and together as one big happy O’s family we can move heaven and earth from one little corner of East London.

Enjoy your summer O’s fans and here’s to a prosperous 2016/2017.
