Tom Parkes wants back-to-back promotion with Leyton Orient after signing a two-year-deal with the club.

The 24-year-old made the switch to the Matchroom Stadium from Bristol Rovers after having helped the club gain promotion into League One.

The Gas defender told the Leyton Orient club website he is delighted to be a part of a massive club and hopes they can seal promotion.

“I think a lot of people feel they shouldn’t be in League Two,” he said.

“It is a big club, I want to try and help them get promotion into League One and I will take it from there.”

Parkes, who started off his career at Leicester City, made 36 appearances in the 2015/16 season for Darrell Clarke’s Pirates.

The defender also played in both games against Orient last season where they the O’s won at home and lost away.

He made 190 appearances over four years for Rovers where they secured back-to-back promotions into League Two and then straight into League One after one season.

Parkes, who had loan spells with Burton Albion and Yeovil Town, said it was an amazing feeling getting promoted but is now focused on his new club.

He said: “It was a great experience especially getting promotion but that was last season and I have got to look forward to this season here.

“I have got to try and do the same with this club.”

Parkes also said he believes the O’s have got what it takes to achieve automatic promotion and has made this his immediate aim.

He said: “It would be nice to get another promotion, back-to-back, but I am just looking forward to pre-season and that now with the boys.

“And we will go from there.”

It was revealed Parkes turned down the offer of a new deal with Rovers to move to Brisbane Road and the fan favourite at the Memorial Stadium scored six goals during his time in Bristol.

Parkes becomes O’s boss Andy Hessenthaler’s fifth signing of the summer along with Callum Kennedy, Robbie Weir, Gavin Massey and Josh Doherty.

All five will become permanent Orient players on Friday, July 1 when the summer transfer window opens.
