What appears on paper to have been a run of the mill stroll for the home side was anything but at the Matchroom Stadium on Bank Holiday Monday.

Orient started very sloppily and can thank the woeful inadequecies of Bury's finishing for keeping them in a match that could and should have been over inside the first 15 minutes.

In the second minute, Tom Soares found himself through on goal only to fluff his final effort. Less than a minute later and it was Nicky Ajose who missed horribly when scoring seemed the easier option.

Orient just couldn't get their act together in the opening stages and it did look as if Bury were going to steamroller them but then came the breakthrough.

In the ninth minute it was Jimmy Smith who shot high into the corner of the net following some debatable Bury defending. The home fans thought that would settle Orient but there was still time for yet another terrible miss for Bury when Andy Bishop conspired to miss a glorious opportunity so it easily could have been 3-1 to the visitors at that stage.

The moment that turned the match in Orient's favour was itself clouded in controversy as David Mooney's goal was allowed to stand despite appeals for offside from Bury's players. To most watching it looked offside too, but fortune was favouring Orient. From that moment on the result was never in doubt as Orient seemed to grow more confident ,whilst Bury seemed to accept their fate.

The second half never lived up to the first although both Bishop and Steven Schumacher still missed glaring chances for Bury whilst Mooney did likewise for Orient.

In the end it was comfortable for the O's who suffered worrying injuries to both Mathieu Baudry and Elliot Omozusi. However if they start as sluggishly against more clinical opposition in their next match, the result may well be very different.
