Bradley Pritchard scored his first goal for new club Leyton Orient as he fired them to a 1-0 win at Northampton Town in this afternoon's friendly.

The former Charlton Athletic midfielder curled home the winning goal during the second half as the O's stepped up their preparation for the new season which starts in a fortnight.

Scott Cuthbert recovered from the groin injury which kept him out of the midweek draw at Gateshead to take his place in a strong Orient side.

The O's created the first decent opportunity after a miss-kick from Ben Tozer but Dean Cox could only volley high and wide from close range.

League Two hosts Northampton had to wait until the half hour mark for their first chance when John-Joe O'Toole headed over Adam Legzdins' bar.

David Mooney fired in a speculative effort from a tight angle which was spilled round the post by Matt Duke.

The visitors went close through Chris Dagnall but the striker's shot was parried by keeper Duke.

Cox almost gave Orient the lead before the break but he sent his volley fizzing just over the bar.

Lloyd James came on in place of Cuthbert for the second half and was used out of position at right-back.

Mathieu Baudry picked up an injury and Russell Slade took no chances as he replaced the defender with Elliot Omozusi.

Orient opened the scoring just after the hour mark when Cox and Dagnall combined to set up Pritchard as he curled the ball into the far corner of the net.

The O's made another double substitution as Shaun Batt and Kevin Lisbie replaced Marvin Bartley and Mooney.

Slade made another change when he introduced trialist midfielder Ayo Okosun, who also featured at Gateshead, in place of Nathan Clarke.

Northampton had the chance to draw level but Kaid Mohamed headed straight at Legzdins.

The O's made a late change as young winger Scott Kashket replaced Dagnall.

Orient's next friendly is on Tuesday night when they entertain Premier League newcomers QPR.
