Nathan Clarke has offered complete support for Russell Slade and the captain underlined the manager deserves to stay in charge at Brisbane Road.

The Orient boss remains at the helm, despite facing an ultimatum going into Tuesday’s game at Notts County, after owner Francesco Becchetti held post-match talks with him.

Slade brought Clarke to the club two years ago and appointed him as the skipper. The pair have forged a strong relationship and Clarke insists the whole squad were desperate to help keep Slade in a job.

Clarke said: “Personally the manager is a massive person at this club. He supports everybody out on that pitch and loves the support he gets from the fans. You can see they are all behind him and we hope he gets the time he deserves to turn it around. We believe in the dressing room as a squad he’s the man to do that and bring out the best in the players. Nobody knows us better than him so we’re hoping he sticks with us and keeps backing us as well as he has done so far.

“As you saw out on the pitch I thought the lads really gave it everything they had. It was strange circumstances but as players we can only go out and do as much as we can for the manager.

“He’s always stuck behind us and we as players believe he’s the man to take us forward and we want him here as long as possible.”
