Leyton Orient’s Under-16s were crowned National Category Three champions after beating Bury 4-1 at Moor Park in Derbyshire.

Danny Webb’s team went into the match having already won the South East Division after putting together a 30-match unbeaten run.

Coach Webb said: “They are a group of mature lads but obviously football is ultimately about winning and as I said before, this win caps off three years of hard work from everyone. The group has rarely lost over the previous three years and not only have all of them developed as players, but now they also possess the winning and ruthless mentality which is needed to become a professional footballer.”

Josh Koroma, who scored twice in the Southern Area final win over Bournemouth, fired the O’s into the lead after 23 minutes.

It took just five minutes for Orient to double their lead after a close-range finish from defender Myles Judd.

Bury pulled one back in the second half but the O’s hit a superb third to regain control. Steven Alzate beat five players before curling the ball into the net.

Noel Mbo completed the scoring in the 83rd minute when he netted Orient’s fourth to seal the victory.

Academy director Andy Edwards said: “It is a brilliant achievement for the players and it is a reflection of the hard work that has been put in by themselves and their coach Danny Webb over the past three years.

“It now gives the players a platform to push on from and they are an age group that we think very highly of as we have offered 11 scholarships to that age group, which is unprecedented for us in recent years.”

Meanwhile Orient youngsters Victor Adeboyejo and Montel Agyemang have joined Royston Town on a work experience loan and both featured in their 2-0 Southern Division One Central win at Aylesbury United on Saturday.

Striker Adeboyejo marked his debut with the opening goal after eight minutes. Midfielder Agyemang also started before being replaced after 64 minutes.

Versatile defender Sam Ling has also gone on a work experience loan to Ryman Premier Division side Grays Athletic.
