The Leyton Orient Fans’ Trust have urged O’s owner Francesco Becchetti to be more communicative with supporters after a season of incidents off and on the field.

At the time of writing, Orient have failed to answer The Guardian Series’ own questions regarding the potential sale of the club or to confirm whether or not the O’s are under a transfer embargo – as we have been told – for failing to file their 2013/14 accounts on time.

LOFT this week received a response from chief executive Alessandro Angelieri denying a story by The London Evening Standard which claimed owner Becchetti was seeking to sell the club.

Doug Harper, chairman of LOFT, told the Guardian Series: “The club owe it to the fans to be more communicative.

“Us fans have suffered enough in the past season and when another story appears we need to know if it is true or not.

“Enough bizarre events have happened in the past year that we would believe almost anything. So a quick rebuttal or explanation from the club works wonders for us fans.

“LOFT urges Francesco Becchetti to open dialogue with the fans. There are many questions that need answers, as is highlighted in our statement. He knows how to contact us.

“A few months ago Francesco Becchetti said that his door was open for fans to talk to him. Never mind it being locked, we have not found the door.”

LOFT released a statement earlier in the week summarising the reply they received from Angelieri to questions they had earlier submitted to Becchetti.

Those questions were: • Having taken over a League 1 club with aspirations towards the Championship, does he intend to remain as owner after relegation to League 2?

Assuming he wants to remain, the next questions are: • Will he review all the key decisions since the takeover to understand what lessons have been learned?

• What are his short-term and long-term plans for the club, on and off the pitch, beyond staging an Italian reality TV show?

• What plans will he put in place to avoid the administrative failures seen in the past year?

• How does he plan to put the club on a long-term sustainable financial footing, given the much larger wage bill the club now has?

On Tuesday, LOFT released another statement which incorporated Angelieri’s response to those questions.

It read: “LOFT has received a response from club CEO Alessandro Angelieri to some of our outstanding questions.

“Regarding newspaper reports in Italy and the UK that Francesco Becchetti is considering selling the club, he says he is as surprised as anyone that The Standard printed the story. It obtained the story from an Italian newspaper article that contained what he described as "many mistakes", such as that Becchetti would sell the club for nothing.

“Alessandro affirms that Becchetti is working hard to find a new manager, and that they are working on rebuilding the team for the next season.

"Players whose contracts expire in the summer have not been re-signed due to Football League rules which state that clubs have to decide if they want to renew contracts. Until a new manager is in place the club honestly does not know who he would want to keep or let go.

“The new manager will decide who he wants to keep; any players who he decides to keep will be contacted immediately to discuss new contract offers. This has been explained to the players at a meeting.

“While this answers some of our questions, there remain others over the ongoing stability of the club and Becchetti's long-term plans. LOFT continues to press for greater communication and clarity from the club's owner, as set out in our recent statement.”
