Mark Carrington scored the decisive goal in this game at Stadium:MK which was low on entertainment.
There was a carnival atmosphere at Stadium:MK for family day but the football did not match up.
Carrington headed in with 31 minutes gone in the first half after an extended spell of pressure by the hosts which Orient had repelled until then with increasingly dogged defending.
Carrington beat keeper Jamie Jones and Tamika Mkandawire to Aaron Wilbraham's chipped ball into the heart of the box, and headed past the on-rushing Jones' into the middle of the net.
It is now no wins in six games for Geraint Williams and Leyton Orient after this result. It means they slip down one place in the table to 16th, and remain in the waiting room of League One safety.
But the O's can be satisfied with their defensive display against a Dons' side which totally dominated possession for two thirds of the game.
Andrew Cave-Brown was solid at left-back and the back line stood firm in the face of almost everything the hosts threw their way.
However, fans did not see a shot on goal by Orient until past the mid-way point in each half.
They only became a threat in attack when Jonathan Téhoué and James Scowcroft entered the fray on the hour-mark, for Scott McGleish and Aaron Doran, who had a quiet game in right midfield.
The pair were a genuine target for their team-mates who played to frustrate the Dons, which Scott McGleish and Ryan Jarvis had not offered because they spent so much time inside their own half on defensive duties.
Substitute James Scowcroft hit a volley from 16 yards out on 79 minutes which Gueren stopped with a diving save, and fired a couple more efforts afterwards too. They hinted at more good things to come from him in an Orient shirt..
Now Orient gear up for the latest clash they cannot afford to lose on Tuesday, when they travel to Oldham.
Jones, Purches, Chorley, Mkandawire, Doran (Téhoué 63), McGleish (Scowcroft 63), Thornton, Demetriou, Jarvis, Cave-Brown, Smith.
Subs: Morris, Chambers, Daniels, Téhoué, Baker, Mike, Scowcroft.
