ORIENT: Boss anger after 'worst game of season' at Dons

5:58pm Sunday 7th March 2010

GERAINT WILLIAMS was seething after defeat away to MK Dons with a display by Orient which was unrecognisable to him.

The Orient manager could only look on as MK Dons dominated proceedings with long ball tactics and his own players fail to make a mark of their own on the match.

James Scowcroft’s volley on 79 minutes was the one bright spot in the game for the visitors.

Williams branded the contest “as poor a game of football as I’ve seen this season in this league.”

“I thought we played for about 15 minutes” he said about the spell which peaked with Scowcroft’s effort.

“Then we played the conditions and put them under pressure. That was the only time we looked like the Leyton Orient I’ve know this year. I’m very disappointed with that performance.

“I didn’t think Dons had anything which was insurmountable. They didn’t give us any problems which we couldn’t solve, but we didn’t. That’s the disappointing thing for me.

“These players have been fantastic, effort wise and attitude wise for me, and I thought there was something for us in the game, but we took nothing.”

The performance meant that Orient could have no complaints about the final score, he reflected.

“We probably didn’t deserve it. For 15 minutes we had a right go, but you can't do that in a 90 minute game and expect to come away and win. It’s a lesson for us.

“The pitch didn’t help, it was bobbly, and they (MK Dons) put the ball forwards. But you have to deal with those things and earn the right to play, and we didn’t.”

Mark Carrington headed the winning goal on 31 minutes, when he was quicker than Stephen Purches and keeper Jamie Jones to meet Aaron Wilbraham’s chipped pass into the heart of the box.

“A simple goal and a very soft goal to give away” is how Williams saw it.

“I’m a firm believer that you get out of life what you in” he stated. “And we got out of the game exactly what we deserved.”
